All projects are required to have a safety assessment through all phases of the project development process. By keeping the culture of safety in every project, over time the collective improvements are expected to create a safer transportation network by utilizing the safe system approach.
The SAFER tool was developed to facilitate these discussions within the project development teams. The core team should use this document to consider safety improvements for projects. Crash history and customer areas of concern should be part of the discussion, as well as considerations for potential future crashes. This is not an all-inclusive list, and further safety analysis may be required.
