These Maintenance planning guidelines apply to both major and minor roads.

Definition

The time and expenses incurred for mowing right of way with tractor or push mower. This does not include mowing at welcome areas, roadside parks, weigh stations, maintenance buildings or any office location.

Purpose

To control roadside vegetation and improve sight distance.

Scheduling

Refer to 822 Roadside Vegetation Management.

Recommended Equipment

Recommended Material

None.

Recommended Procedure

1. Place traffic control devices as needed.
2. Remove litter.
3. Mow according to established procedures.
4. Remove traffic control devices.

Safety

Use slope indicators. Be aware of surroundings. Wear all appropriate PPE. Refer to the Safety Policies, Rules & Regulations-Employee Handbook.

Other Considerations

When roading batwing mowers, raise the mowers to the upright position, especially when crossing over bridges. Selective mowing may be directed to address desired vegetation management practices.
