This article establishes procedures for Laboratory testing of epoxy resins. Refer to Sec 1039 for MODOT's specifications.

1039.4.1 Sample Preparation

These materials are furnished as multiple-component systems. The mixing ratio of components must be the same as that used to obtain Manufacturer and Brand Name Approval.

1039.4.2 Procedure

1039.4.2.1 Type II and III Epoxy

Test components by obtaining an Infrared Spectrum.

Test the mixed material according to the following:

Viscosity, Brookfield viscometer as set forth in ASTM D 2393.
Gel Time, ASTM C 881

Test the mixed and cured material according to the following:

Bond Strength, ASTM C 882
Tensile Strength and Elongation at Break, ASTM D 638

1039.4.2.2 Bonding Agents for Dowels

Determine the properties of bonding agents for dowels according to MoDOT Test Method T49.

Run an Infrared Spectrum on each component.

Record original test data and calculations in Laboratory workbooks.

1039.4.2.3 Bonding Agents for Resin Anchor Systems

Determine the properties of bonding agents for resin anchor systems according to ASTM C 881. Perform the pull test in accordance with MoDOT Test Method T74.

Run an Infrared Spectrum on each component.

Record original test data and calculations in Laboratory workbooks.

1039.4.2.4 Sand for Epoxy Mortar

Test sand for epoxy mortar for compliance with Sec 1039. Determine the moisture content in a laboratory oven.

Record original test data and calculations in Laboratory workbooks.
