Structural Steel (AASHTO M270/ASTM A709)
All structural steel will be AASHTO M270/ASTM A709 Grade 36 (Fy = 36 ksi) or Grade 50 (Fy = 50 ksi) except where weathering steel (AASHTO M270/ASTM A709 Grade 50W steel) is indicated on the Design Layout or in special cases. Welded or seamless steel shell (pipe) for CIP pile will be ASTM A252 Modified Grade 3 (Fy = 50 ksi). For pipe common available nominal wall thicknesses, see EPG 751.36.2.2.2. See Project Manager for use of structural steel with Fy greater than 50 ksi.
Note: ASTM A709 Grade 50S shall not be specified for HP piles or other structural shapes without prior confirmation of the availability of the material.
