This article establishes procedures for inspecting, sampling and reporting polyethylene sheeting. Refer to [ Sec 1058] for MoDOT’s specifications.
1058.1 Procedure
The Resident Engineer may accept polyethylene sheeting, for use in curing Portland cement concrete or use as a bond breaker between a bridge approach slab and a granular base. However, if Construction and Materials is requested to perform inspection, the material may be accepted on the basis of manufacturer's certification or sampling and testing, if deemed necessary. When a shipment is sampled, the number of rolls to be sampled is one half the square root of the number of rolls, rounded to the nearest whole number, in the shipment. A sample is to consist of a strip 18 in. (450 mm) long by the width of the roll and is to be cut at least 5 ft. (1500 mm) from the end of the roll. The samples are to be submitted to the Laboratory for testing through AASHTOWARE Project (AWP).
A list of those manufacturers who have submitted for New Product Evaluation and provided certification that their product meets the requirements of Sec 1058 is below.
Table 1058 Qualified Brand Names and Manufacturers of Polyethylene Sheeting (1058PSBB, 1058PSCM)
Brand Name | Manufacturer |
---|---|
HydrAdsorb | Fortifiber Corp. |

This qualified list does not represent all products that may be used for those applications listed in Sec 1058. Other products may be accepted based on certification provided to the inspector at the jobsite or on sampling and testing. However, those companies that submit to Construction and Materials for New Product Evaluation and provide certification that their product meets the requirements of Sec 1058 will be placed on the qualified list and my be accepted based on brand name.
1058.2 Report (Records)
When polyethylene sheeting is accepted in the field, it is to be reported through AWP and the manufacturer's certification, when used for acceptance, is to be retained in the district office. The report is to indicate acceptance, qualified acceptance or rejection. Appropriate remarks, as described in Reporting Test Results, are to be included in the report to clarify the conditions of acceptance or rejection.
Distribution of reports for materials purchased under a Department purchase order is to be as described in EPG 1101 Materials Purchased by a Department Purchase Order.
